The Boston Fire Department reports no injuries after a two-alarm fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. at 98 Charles St., at Pinckney Street. Firefighters had to rescue some residents via ladders thrown up against the five-story building.

Damage was estimated at $500,000.

DEA agents and Boston drug investigators were busy early this morning arresting two brothers and their associates for running cocaine and crack in a swath that ran from the Fidelis Way development in Brighton to the South End to Mattapan. Read more.

Parkman Drive is once again open to cars, seeing as how there's no longer any need to provide extra space for walkers and joggers around Jamaica Pond, or something. In any case, DCR said it was removing the barriers tonight.

The Boston Licensing Board has scheduled an emergency hearing for tomorrow on "the numerous complaints" both the board and ISD have gotten about lack of compliance with state requirements for social distancing, facial coverings and sanitizing and with city regulations allowing restaurants to put seats on parking spaces out front during the current state of emergency. A federal judge yesterday rejected a plea for compassionate release for a man serving a ten-year sentence for hiring a hit man to kill his wife and for trying to hire another hit man to kill the state trooper who turned out to be working undercover as the first hit man and the friend who introduced the trooper to him. Boston Police report a man was shot around 1:50 a.m. at 26 Thane St. in Dorchester. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

CommonWealth reports MassDOT is looking at a new alternative for rebuilding the turnpike while maintaining train lines, Soldiers Field Road and bike and pedestrian paths in a space just 204 feet wide just past where the Allston/Cambridge tolls used to be. Read more.

WBUR reports a site that tracks Covid-19 transmission says Massachusetts has an Rt rate of 0.67, which means that many people who test positive are not spreading the virus - a rate of 1.0 would mean that an infected person has infected just 1 other person. This is a good thing, obviously.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports it is investigating a now former Transit Police officer for possibly lying about an April 28 incident in a Forest Hills busway in which he may have shoved the man into the pavement and then kept him there with his knee on his back for 20 seconds.
